Gallup StrengthsIncluder:
This is my top strength and I see this in my life every day, this strength means that I am always making a point to include everyone and I am very accepting of new and different ideas. Being an inclusive nurse means that I am accepting and thoughtful of different backgrounds and experiences that my patients may face. Restorative: The restorative strength describes a person as being adaptable and able to solve problems. To me this strength is seen through my ability to quickly analyze a problem and think of different possible solutions. I have been able to use this strength when working with people by being able to see when they are upset and how to resolve the issue. As a restorative nurse I am able to have productive conversation with my coworkers when conflict arises. It also enables me to think on my feet when in an emergent situation and allows me to see many approaches to solving the problem. |
Positivity:
The positivity strength is relatively self-explanatory. To me this strength is a way that I try to live my life. My favorite saying comes from a song that my Grandmother used to sing to me, "accentuate the positive". I strongly relate to this strength because I always try to bring positivity to all activities that I am a part of. As a positive nurse I have the ability to encourage my patients in all situations. Learner: The learner strength relates to my desire to learn new things. I have always loved school because I enjoy being introduced to new ideas, but the learner strength is more than just liking to learn academics. To me the learner strength is a desire to experience everything, this strength is what drives my desire to travel the world and see new things. Additionally, this strength is what makes me passionate about helping to mentor and teach others new things. As a learner in the health care setting, I am passionate about staying current with new studies and recommendations for providing the highest quality evidence based practice. Winning other over: The winning others over strength is described as a person that really enjoys meeting new people and breaking the ice. This strength is similar to what many people may describe as friendly and outgoing. I have used this strength my whole life but traveling across country to a place that I have never been for college is when I realized this strength. I was comfortable making new friends and meeting new people in college, this is a strength that I can utilize a lot but especially when it comes to being put into an environment I have never been before, with people I have never met. As a nurse, I can use this strength to build rapport with my patients and help them feel comfortable being open and honest with me so that I may provide the best care possible. |
VIA Value StrengthsForgiveness:
This value relates to my ability to forgive people who may have made a mistake in some way, and my ability to understand that not everyone is perfect. In nursing it is important to realize that things may not always go as planned however I value forgiving mistakes and use it as an opportunity to grow. Hope: This value relates to my optimistic outlook and my belief that change can happen, regardless of how little or small it may be. This ties into my strength of positivity. A nurse with hope can enable a patient to be more resilient. I am able to help people see the need to keep pushing through the hard parts. Kindness: This value relates to my includer strength, Because it is important to me that I am nice and welcoming to everyone and their ideas, I have to ability to be inclusive. As a nurse, you may not always get patients that are kind to you, however because I value kindness, I am able to care for all my patients with the level of respect and competency that they deserve. |
Curiosity:
This value is describes as taking interest in something for one’s own sake. This value relates closely to my learner strength because I am curious about so many things, leads me to have a passion for learning. Curiosity within nursing allows me to search for alternative methods to relieve my patients discomfort and explore the root of the problem they are facing. Zest: This value shows how I am interested and excited about life and different opportunities to experience something new. This value can relate both to my Winning others over and my positivity strength. I live life putting my all into everything that I take a part of. As a nurse my value for zest will keep me motivated to provide quality care to patients and spend the time to learn more about their background. |
